«La dona a 1000º» is the contemporary novel by Hallgrímur Helgason, published by Labutxaca in paperback (592 pages, in Catalan).
Herra is an eighty-year-old Icelander who lives alone in a garage in Reykjavik and connects with the world through the internet. As she decides to cremate herself, she reviews her past: World War II in Denmark and Germany, her friendship with the Beatles in Hamburg, and her final acts of revenge.
Catalan translation by Maria Llopis Freixas. Original work: «Konan við 1000°» (2011); this Labutxaca edition was published in 2014.
A read for an adult audience, interested in contemporary fiction with a mordant and irreverent voice about memory and old age.
Hallgrímur Helgason is an Icelandic painter, novelist, translator, and columnist.
