Animal Farm is a satirical fable by George Orwell that criticizes the Soviet rhetoric of equality. The animals of Manor Farm decide to rebel against the owner and establish their own democracy, but the revolution quickly degenerates under the leadership of the pigs Napoleon and Snowball. Napoleon expels Snowball and introduces a new constitution: 'All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others'. Dictatorship and repression reconcile the animals with the humans, who no longer seem so different from the former revolutionaries.

Eric Arthur Blair was an English novelist, poet, essayist, journalist, and critic who wrote under the pen name of George Orwell. His work is characterised by lucid prose, social criticism, opposition to all totalitarianism, and support of democratic socialism.
