«La fortuna de Matilda Turpin» is the novel by Álvaro Pombo, published by Planeta in paperback (460 pages, in Spanish).
Set in a stately home on a cliff in northern Spain, the novel follows Matilda Turpin, a wealthy woman who, after thirteen years of marriage to a philosophy professor and three children, embarks on a career in high finance. That decision strains her family life and raises the question of whether it was all a mistake and at what point it is discovered.
It won the Planeta Prize 2006; this special edition from Grandes Publicaciones includes illustrations by Merche Gaspar and was published in Barcelona in 2006.
