«La jeune fille aux oracles» is the historical and fantasy novel by Judith Merkle Riley, published by Presses de la Cité (609 pages, in French).
In seventeenth-century Paris, Geneviève reads the future in a glass of water and is taken in by the occultist La Voisin. Transformed into the mysterious Madame de Morville, she attracts high society and reaches Versailles at the height of the Affair of the Poisons. Between cunning and a desire for revenge, she makes her way in a world of secrets and male privilege.
The 1997 French edition translates The Oracle Glass, the original novel published in 1992. The action takes place in seventeenth-century Paris and at the court of Louis XIV.
For readers of historical and fantasy fiction, with a shrewd protagonist and an intrigue set at the court of the Sun King.
