«La Locandiera» is the comedy by Carlo Goldoni and Michel Morisset, published by Hachette in paperback (223 pages, in French).
The plot follows Mirandolina, owner of an inn in Florence, who manages her aristocratic guests, bent on conquering her, with cunning and intelligence, while protecting her freedom and sustaining her business. The play, premiered in 1753, stands out for inverting the romantic schemes of classical comedy and for its strong protagonist who is mistress of her own destiny.
The edition belongs to the Classiques de Hachette collection and includes the complete text in French with a dossier on Goldoni and his era, thematic overview, glossaries and bibliography.
Aimed at secondary school students and readers approaching classical theater, with didactic material for studying the work.

Carlo Osvaldo Goldoni was an Italian playwright and librettist from the Republic of Venice. His works include some of Italy's most famous and best-loved plays. Audiences have admired the plays of Goldoni for their ingenious mix of wit and honesty. His plays offered his contemporaries images of themselves, often dramatizing the lives, values, and conflicts of the emerging middle classes. Though he wrote in French and Italian, his plays make rich use of the Venetian language, regional vernacular, and colloquialisms. Goldoni also wrote under the pen name and title Polisseno Fegeio, Pastor Arcade, which he claimed in his memoirs the "Arcadians of Rome" bestowed on him.
