«La madre» is the novel by Russian writer Maxim Gorky, published by Edimat Libros in hardcover, with 413 pages in Spanish.
Set in tsarist Russia at the beginning of the 20th century, it narrates the political awakening of a mother whose son collaborates in revolutionary propaganda. The novel portrays the misery of the working class, police repression and the role of clandestine books and newspapers in spreading Marxist ideas, along with solidarity among comrades.
Written in exile and originally published between 1907 and 1908, this edition belongs to the Clásicos Selección collection. In 1926 Soviet cinema brought the novel to the big screen.
Aimed at readers of classic Russian literature and those who value novels with a social and political background.

Alexei Maximovich Peshkov, popularly known as Maxim Gorky, was a Russian and Soviet writer, journalist, and proponent of socialism. He was nominated five times for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Before his success as an author, he travelled widely across the Russian Empire, changing jobs frequently; these experiences would later influence his writing. He associated with fellow Russian writers Leo Tolstoy and Anton Chekhov, both mentioned by Gorky in his memoirs.
