El 24 de junio de 1792, dos grandes coches de viaje salieron de las Tullerías, uno con destino a Dunkerque y el otro a Barcelona. Llevaban a los astrónomos Pierre Mechain y Jean-Baptiste Delambre, a quienes el gobierno revolucionario francés había ordenado inspeccionar el meridiano que pasa por ambas ciudades y dividirlo para crear una unidad de medida natural y universal, el metro. Denis Guedj was a French novelist and a professor of the History of Science at Paris VIII University. He was born in Setif. He spent many years devising courses and games to teach adults and children math. He is the author of Numbers: The Universal Language and of the novel The Parrot's Theorem. He died in Paris.
