«La Mestra» is the novel by Víctor Gómez Labrado, published in 1995 by Edicions 3 i 4 in paperback (275 pages, in Catalan).
The novel evokes the events of Barx (La Safor) between 1974 and 1981, during the Valencian democratic transition. The proposal for a popular, democratic and Valencian school by the teacher Marifé unleashes tensions among parents, the town council, clan structures and political bodies; the town thus becomes a symbol of the Valencian conflict.
The work is part of the Narratives 3 i 4 collection and corresponds to its first edition.
For readers interested in historical fiction and the memory of the Valencian Transition.
