«La mirada del alma» is the short novel by Luis Mateo Díez, published by Alfaguara in 1997 in paperback (143 pages, in Spanish).
In a convalescent ward, a man recalls a gaze that persists for fifty years, an enigma that is unexpectedly revealed, and a surprising destiny. Innocence, desire, hardship, illness and solitude form an emotional fable: a story of impossible love determined by chance.
