«La nación inventada: Una historia diferente de Castilla» is the historical essay by Arsenio Escolar and Ignacio Escolar (Ediciones Península, paperback).
After Las Navas de Tolosa and the conquest of much of al-Andalus, Castile was the most powerful force on the peninsula, but its real past was less brilliant. During the reigns of Ferdinand III and Alfonso X, myths and half-truths —from the judges of Castile to El Cid— were forged that have reached popular culture.
A 344-page work in Spanish, published in 2020 by Ediciones Península and part of the Atalaya collection.
Recommended for readers of historical non-fiction and for those who want to understand how Castilian identity was built.
