In 2018, Sylvain Tesson was invited by wildlife photographer Vincent Munier to observe the last specimens of the snow leopard in Tibet. These animals, discreet and very shy, live on a gigantic plateau culminating at 5,000 meters above sea level, the Changtang. Sylvain Tesson describes a kind of African savannah that rises to 4,000 meters above sea level, where herds of antelopes, blue goats and hordes of yaks cross vast expanses of grass where dunes rise. The team goes deeper and deeper, rising to heights that far exceed what we know in Europe. At 5,000 meters above sea level opens the domain of the snow leopard. In this natural sanctuary totally inhospitable to man, the feline has found the means for its survival and tranquility.

Sylvain Tesson is a French writer and traveller born in Paris. He has engaged in a number of unusual travels and expeditions which are the basis for his books. Among his most successful works are The Consolations of the Forest (2011), about a project to live alone in a Siberian cabin for six months and The Art of Patience (2019), about the quest for snow leopards in Tibet. For the latter book, he received the Prix Renaudot.
