«La petite Suzanne» is the historical novel by Roger Judenne, published by Editions France Loisirs (De Borée) in hardcover (440 pages, in French).
After World War I, Rosine takes care of Suzanne, a child from the public assistance system, and receives a pension for it. When the child dies, she replaces her with her own daughter Jeanne. Over the years, the fear of discovery fades, until an adoption law of 1923 leads a couple to want to adopt Suzanne and the secret is endangered.
The plot alludes to the French law of June 19, 1923, which allowed the adoption of orphaned minors.
For readers of historical novels and family dramas set in interwar France.
