In the year 1306, the doctor Jehan Fauvel seeks his friend Foulques de Sevrin, bishop of Alençon, to entrust him with an enigmatic red stone, as powerful as it is fearsome. Soon after, he is captured by the Inquisition, which also follows in the footsteps of his daughter Héluise, whose trail has been lost. In this context, Druon de Brévaux appears, an itinerant doctor who offers his services in the villages. On his way, he arrives at the county of the Baroness of D'Antigny, terrified by a bloodthirsty beast. Druon promises to save them from the creature in exchange for his own life. However, his task is complicated by betrayals, conspiracies, and powerful people who abuse the humble, innocents sacrificed for the sake of power, and enigmas to be solved. Can he defeat lies and obscurantism with science?
