«La reina calba» is a children's story by Mercè Company i González, published by Edicions del Bullent in paperback (48 pages, in Catalan).
In a small kingdom between the Little Valley and the Big Valley, the sovereign has a castle, subjects, dresses and a queenly face, but barely seven hairs on her head. No one remembers her name and everyone knows her as the Bald Queen. From that situation, the story humorously reflects on accepting difference.
Fourth title in the Altres collection, with illustrations by Mercè Arànega. Enric Valor Prize for Youth Fiction 1983.
Recommended for child and young readers up to 14, especially those seeking illustrated stories in Catalan about difference.
