«La reine de Saba» is the historical novel by Marek Halter, published by Robert Laffont in paperback (333 pages, in French).
The novel recreates the figure of Makeda, Queen of Sheba, and her encounter with King Solomon in the 10th century BC. The plot combines the political intrigue of the kingdom, rich in gold and incense, with the battle of wits between the two monarchs and the alliance that emerges from their relationship. Halter draws on sacred texts and archaeology to offer a modern version of the legend.
The novel was recognized with the Prix Festi-Live Femmes de Paix in 2009; the original edition dates from 2008.
