«La saga/fuga de J.B.» is the novel by Gonzalo Torrente Ballester, published by Círculo de Lectores in paperback (567 pages, in Spanish).
In Castroforte del Baralla, imaginary capital of the fifth Galician province, the disappearance of the relic of the Holy Body unleashes a legendary chronicle told by José Bastida. Humor, fantasy, irony and parody combine in a musical fugue structure where the same plot reappears over the centuries.
Originally published in 1972, it is part of the series «La saga/fuga de J. B.» (position 1-2) and received the Premio de la Crítica de Narrativa Castellana.
For readers of classic fiction and Spanish literature who appreciate novels with humor, fantasy and a Galician backdrop.
Gonzalo Torrente Ballester was a Spanish writer associated with the Generation of '36 movement.
