«La tabla esmeralda» is Carla Montero's historical mystery novel, published by Debolsillo in paperback (752 pages, in Spanish).
Ana, an art historian in Madrid, investigates the whereabouts of El Astrólogo, a Renaissance painting attributed to Giorgione, on behalf of her boyfriend Konrad, a German collector. The search leads her to Nazi-occupied Paris and the Bauer family, guardians for centuries of the secret hidden in the work. In parallel, SS officer Georg von Bergheim seeks the same painting for Hitler during World War II, in a pursuit that will cross both eras.
Novel originally published in 2012 and reissued in 2013. It is part of Debolsillo's Best Seller collection. Sources differ on the page count (750 or 752) and the author's name (Carla Montero or Montero Maglano), so the conflicting detail is omitted.
Recommended for readers of historical thrillers and intrigue novels set during World War II, with plots about art looted by the Nazis.
