On the eve of the fall of Jean Claude Duvalier, known as "Baby Doc", a sailor returns to his native Haiti after twenty years of absence, answering the call of a voodoo priest who was his childhood friend. The reunion with his old affections and memories, as well as the clash with a country in full swing, trigger a crisis in the main character, who is dragged along by events. This novel combines psychological narration with current affairs chronicle, describing an exotic world with a dramatic plot.
Mayra Montero is a well-known Cuban-Puerto Rican writer.
