«La venganza de Don Mendo» is the verse comedy by Pedro Muñoz Seca, published by Austral in paperback (288 pages, in Spanish).
A parody of the historical romantic drama, defined by its author as a caricature of tragedy. The revenge plot serves as an excuse for a display of versification: different Castilian meters and stanzas, surprising rhymes, wordplay, archaisms and anachronisms turn the work into a continuous exercise in verbal comedy.
The work belongs to the Austral Clásica collection, Theatre series, number 1. This edition includes a prologue by Alfonso Ussía and a reading guide by Almudena del Olmo Iturriarte. The work premiered at the Teatro de la Comedia in 1918.
For those who enjoy classic Spanish theater, literary parody and humor based on language and versification.

Pedro Muñoz Seca was a Spanish comic playwright. He was one of the most successful playwrights of his era. He wrote approximately 300 dramatic works, both sainetes and longer plays, often in collaboration with Pedro Pérez Fernández or Enrique García Álvarez. His most ambitious and best known play is La venganza de Don Mendo ; other major works include La barba de Carrillo and Pepe Conde (1920).
