«La vida cotidiana en Roma en el apogeo del Imperio» is the historical essay by Jérôme Carcopino, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardcover (375 pages).
It portrays daily life in Rome under Trajan and Hadrian, at the height of the Empire: the urban and social framework (houses, family, education, culture) and an ordinary day in the metropolis, from personal hygiene to shows and meals. With quotations and anecdotes, Carcopino reveals the moral contradictions that herald the decline.
Translation by Mercedes Fernández Cuesta of the French original «La vie quotidienne à Rome à l'apogée de l'Empire» (1936); includes a final bibliography. 2004 edition.
Recommended for enthusiasts of Roman history and for readers interested in daily life in the ancient world.
