«L'abbesse de Crewe» is Muriel Spark's satirical novel, published by Fayard in paperback (117 pages, in French).
In an English Benedictine convent, Abbess Alexandra installs microphones to spy on her nuns and manipulates her re-election. After the scandal, a Vatican investigation challenges the abbess; the work is a mordant satire on corruption, power and surveillance.
Originally published in English in 1974, the work appears here in a French translation by Antoine Jaccottet.
For readers of literary satire and British fiction, as well as for those who follow Muriel Spark's work.
