«Ladies Can't Climb Ladders» is Jane Robinson's social history essay, published by Black Swan in paperback (384 pages, in English).
The Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act of 1919 promised to open traditional professions to women in Britain. Jane Robinson reconstructs the lives of pioneers in medicine, law, academia, architecture, engineering and the Church, and society's reaction to their ambitions: equal opportunity, the gender pay gap and work-life balance.
The work was published in 2021 and carries the subtitle The Pioneering Adventures of the First Professional Women.
Reading for those interested in social history, feminism and women's access to the professional world of work.
