«L'Africaine» is the novel by Francesca Marciano, published by Belfond in paperback (290 pages, in French).
In Nairobi, Kenya, 1997, Esmé lives in a community of European expatriates. Caught between Adam, a safari organizer, and Hunter, a war correspondent marked by the atrocities of Rwanda, she sees her balance shatter. The narrative is also an immersion in Kenyan landscapes and a critique of expatriate life.
The French translation is by Dorothee Zumstein; the Belfond edition was published in April 2003.
For readers of contemporary fiction interested in stories set in Africa, with themes of identity and complex relationships among expatriates.
