«Lagarto» is Dennis Covington's young adult novel, published by Ediciones SM in paperback (176 pages, in Spanish).
Lucius Sims is smart, though his appearance invites underestimation. When a stranger claims to be his father, Lucius follows him without hesitation, even though he believes his father is dead. Told in the first person, the novel addresses emotions with sensitivity and shows how a special gaze makes the ordinary extraordinary.
Part of the Alerta Roja collection (no. 12). The original title is 'Lizard', from 1991; the Spanish edition is from 2005. It won the Alabama Author Award in 1994.
Young adult reading from age 12, aimed at those who enjoy stories about self-esteem and the way of seeing the world.
