«L'angoisse de la première phrase» is a collection of short stories by Bernard Quiriny, published by Points in paperback (205 pages, in French).
In the topsy-turvy world of these stories, philosophers rain down, books start with the second sentence, men able to walk through walls escape their stone cells, and cities set themselves in motion. The first sentence of each tale serves as a threshold to a parallel, poetic and deliberately absurd universe.
The book originally appeared in 2004; this Points edition, subtitled 'nouvelles', was published in 2011.
For readers of fantastical and surreal stories seeking poetic, strange universes with a dreamlike atmosphere.

Bernard Quiriny is a Belgian writer and literary critic.
