«L'aniversari de l'esquirol» is the children's story by Toon Tellegen, published by Cruïlla in paperback (64 pages, in Catalan).
A squirrel discovers her birthday is approaching and sends invitations to the forest animals. They all accept, so she prepares cakes and sweets for each guest. Meanwhile, her friends secretly make gifts. The party day arrives: they chat, dance, and eat together, and at nightfall they return home with the joy of the gathering.
The book belongs to the El Barco de Vapor Azul collection, number 119. It is the 2004 Catalan edition, with illustrations by Marta Balaguer i Julià and translation by Auke Oosterhoff.
Recommended for children aged 7 to 10, especially for those who enjoy stories about animals and celebrations.
Antonius Otto Hermannus (Toon) Tellegen is a Dutch writer, poet, and physician, known for children's books, especially those featuring anthropomorphised animals, particularly those about an ant and a squirrel. His writings are also enjoyed by adults, due to the amusing, bizarre situations that Tellegen creates, as well as their dealings with philosophical subjects.
