«Las cruzadas vistas por los árabes» is the historical essay by Amin Maalouf, published by Alianza Editorial in paperback (400 pages, in Spanish).
Maalouf reconstructs the crusades from the Arab side based on the testimonies of chroniclers of the time. The account spans from the fall of Jerusalem in 1099 to the capture of Acre in 1291, and shows how the Arabs experienced the invasions of the «frany», their perception of the Templars and Hospitallers, the figure of Saladin, and the cultural clash between both worlds.
The work was originally published in French as «Les Croisades vues par les Arabes» in 1983. This Spanish edition belongs to the Alianza Bolsillo collection.
An enjoyable and accessible read for those interested in medieval history and the Arab world.
