«Le Bachelier» is the autobiographical novel by Jules Vallès, published by Maxi-livres-Profrance in paperback (288 pages, in French).
After obtaining his baccalaureate, young Jacques Vingtras cannot find work and, driven by his rebelliousness, roams the Paris of the Quartier Latin, where with his friends he imagines revolutionary projects. The narrative, ironic and combative, portrays a turbulent era and anticipates the Commune.
It is the second volume of the autobiographical trilogy Jacques Vingtras, between L'Enfant and L'Insurgé; the work was originally published in 1881.
For readers of nineteenth-century French fiction interested in autobiography, youthful rebellion, and pre-Commune Paris.
Jules Vallès was a French journalist, author, and left-wing political activist.
