«Le cercle des huit» is the novel by Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket), published by Éditions Galaade in paperback, with 531 pages in French.
The protagonist, Flannery Culp, narrates in her diary the discovery of the body of Adam State, the high school star, in the trunk of a stolen car. From there, the pressure of school life combines with a mystery pointing to an alleged satanic ritual, in an ironic and tense plot that moves away from the conventional teenage story.
The French edition, published in 2011, features a translation by Clément Baude and is part of the Littérature étrangère collection.
Recommended for readers of Lemony Snicket who want a mystery with irony, school setting and dark atmosphere.
