With the subtitle «L'expérience vécue» (lived experience), Simone de Beauvoir analyzes the female condition: education, marriage, motherhood and work, and how social conventions shape women's identity and limit their freedom.
Second volume of the series «Le deuxième sexe»; work originally published in 1949, this edition is from 1976.
For readers interested in existentialist philosophy and feminist theory.
Simone Lucie Ernestine Marie Bertrand de Beauvoir was a French existentialist philosopher, writer, social theorist, and feminist activist. Though she did not consider herself a philosopher, nor was she considered one at the time of her death, she had a significant influence on both feminist existentialism and feminist theory.
