«Le jardin des Finzi-Contini» is the novel by Giorgio Bassani published by Gallimard in the Folio collection, in paperback format (372 pages, in French).
The narrator recalls from the present his youth in Ferrara and the closed world of the Finzi-Contini family, well-off Jews living on a large estate with a garden. Under the rise of fascism, a story of friendship, love and loss is woven around Micòl Finzi-Contini, until the threat of the Holocaust looms over their lives.
Third installment of the cycle «Il romanzo di Ferrara», winner of the Premio Letterario Viareggio Rèpaci in 1962.
Classic of twentieth-century Italian literature, for readers of historical fiction interested in fascist Italy and the memory of the Holocaust.
Giorgio Bassani was an Italian novelist, poet, essayist, editor, and intellectual.
