«Le sémaphore d'Alexandrie» is the novel by Robert Solé, published by Seuil in paperback (347 pages, in French).
In Egypt at the beginning of the 1860s, the construction of the Suez Canal changes everything. Maxime Touta, a journalist for the weekly Le Sémaphore d'Alexandrie, witnesses the tensions the project arouses: the rivalry between French and British settlers intertwines with his passion for the fiery Nada.
The novel was published in 1994 and is part of the Cadre rouge collection from the publisher Seuil.
It is suitable reading for those who enjoy historical novels and fiction set in nineteenth-century Egypt.
