«Lecciones de abstinencia» is Tom Perrotta's novel, published by Salamandra in 2009 in paperback (384 pages, in Spanish).
Ruth Ramsey, a sex education teacher at a puritanical school, sees her life disrupted when a comment in class provokes a reaction from a local evangelical church. Her confrontation with Tim Mason, her daughter's soccer coach and a reformed alcoholic, pits two visions of morality against each other. The novel addresses the controversy over abstinence and tolerance with empathy.
