«L'edat de la innocència» is the novel by Edith Wharton, published by Edicions 62 in paperback (280 pages, in Catalan).
In the high society of 1870s New York, appearances and etiquette rule everything. Newland Archer, a refined young man, is about to marry when the arrival of Ellen Olenska, an independent woman who had been married to a Polish nobleman, awakens in him an attraction that clashes with the conventions of his milieu.
The work, originally published in 1920 as «The Age of Innocence», received the Pulitzer Prize in 1921. This Catalan edition, translated by Miquel Casacuberta, belongs to the Butxaca collection.
It will appeal to readers of American classics and period novels who appreciate social criticism and portraits of customs.

Edith Newbold Wharton was an American writer and designer. Wharton drew upon her insider's knowledge of upper-class New York society to portray, realistically, the lives and morals of the Gilded Age. In 1921, she became the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for her novel The Age of Innocence. She was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 1996. Her other well-known works are The House of Mirth, the novella Ethan Frome, and several notable ghost stories.
