«L'enfant noir» is the autobiographical memoir of Camara Laye, published by A Vue d'Oeil in paperback (332 pages, in French).
Camara Laye evokes his childhood and adolescence in Koroussa, in French Guinea, between the animist beliefs of his surroundings and the figure of his father, a respected goldsmith, and his mother, to whom supernatural powers are attributed. The narrative follows his passage to adulthood and the discovery of a changing world.
Work originally published in 1953 and awarded the Charles Veillon Prize in 1954. This large-print edition includes a preface by Alain Mabanckou.
Suitable for readers with visual difficulties, due to its large-print edition, and for fans of African literature and coming-of-age memoirs.

Camara Laye was a writer from Guinea. His most well-known works are The African Child, a novel based loosely on his own childhood, and The Radiance of the King. Both novels are among the earliest major works in Francophone African literature. Camara Laye later worked for the government of newly independent Guinea, but went into voluntary exile over political issues.
