«L'enquête» is the crime novel by Juan José Saer, published by Seuil in paperback (192 pages, in French).
In Paris, a serial killer murders 27 elderly women; all seem to have shared a meal with their executioner before dying. Pigeon Garay returns to Argentina and recounts the case during a dinner, while the discovery of an anonymous manuscript among the papers of a disappeared poet leads to a symbolic journey down a river without banks.
The work was originally published in 1994 under the title «La pesquisa»; this French edition belongs to the Points collection.
