«Les Caractères - Bac 2022» (Books V to X) is the satirical work by Jean de La Bruyère, published by Gallimard in paperback (240 pages, French).
It brings together Books V to X, in which the author traces a gallery of portraits and maxims about the society of his time. Between comedy and sharpness, he describes the customs of the court of Louis XIV, conversation, fortune, the city, the powerful and the sovereign, in a critique that still resonates today.
It belongs to the Folio+Lycée collection (no. 31) and offers the complete annotated text, with thematic sheets, quotations and preparation activities for the Bac within the «La comédie sociale» pathway.
Aimed at première students preparing for the French test of the baccalauréat, with resources for text commentary and the oral test.
Jean de La Bruyère was a French philosopher and moralist, who was noted for his satire.
