En Pointe-Noire, en el barrio de Voungou, la vida sigue su curso. Alrededor de la parcela familiar donde vive con Maman Pauline y Papa Roger, el joven colegial Michel tiene fama de soñador. Pero los problemas cotidianos (dinero perdido, retrasos y distracciones, humor variable de los padres, mezquindades de los vecinos) pronto serán arrastrados por el viento de la Historia. En este mes de marzo de 1977 que debería marcar la llegada de la pequeña estación de las lluvias, el camarada presidente Marien Ngouabi es brutalmente asesinado en Brazzaville. Y esto no estará exento de consecuencias para el joven Michel, que entonces aprenderá, entre otras cosas, el aprendizaje de la mentira.
