«Les Contemplations» is Victor Hugo's poetry collection, published by LGF/Le Livre de Poche in paperback (576 pages, in French).
The poems in this book arise from memory and loss: the death of Léopoldine, Hugo's daughter, divides the volume into two parts, «Autrefois» and «Aujourd'hui». The author, exiled in Guernesey, traverses in the work youth, love, illusion, struggle and grief, and defined it as «Memoirs of a Soul».
The work was originally published in 1856; this edition dates from 2002 and belongs to the Classiques collection.
Useful for students of French literature (appears in BAC syllabi) and for those interested in Romantic poetry.
Novelista, poeta y dramaturgo francés, figura clave del Romanticismo y autor de Los miserables y Nuestra Señora de París.
