«Les ombres de Longbourn» is the historical novel by Jo Baker, published by Rosa dels Vents in hardcover (464 pages, in Catalan).
Revisits Pride and Prejudice from the basements of Longbourn: while the Bennets sleep, the maids Sarah and Polly go about their routine under Mrs Hill's orders. The arrival of James Smith, a servant with a secret past, alters their world and brings to light lives, longings and transformations that Austen's novel kept silent.
Work originally published in English as Longbourn; Catalan translation by Esther Roig Giménez. First edition in October 2013.
For readers of Jane Austen and historical fiction, with an interest in the servants of Longbourn.
