«Les volontés» is the novel by Cécile Guidot, published by Jean-Claude Lattès in paperback (300 pages, in French).
Claire, a notary in her late thirties, with a motorcycle and tattoos, doesn't seem to fit into the world of notary offices. In her practice she untangles complex family matters: inheritances, divorces, disinheritances and secrets that surface during donations. The novel delves into that world and shows how legal acts often stray from true intentions.
Cécile Guidot was a notary specializing in family law before turning to writing; she previously published «Les Actes», also set in a notary's office.
For readers of contemporary French fiction and stories of inheritances, secrets and family dilemmas.
