«Leyenda del César Visionario» is the novel by Francisco Umbral, published by Seix Barral in paperback, with 190 pages, in Spanish.
The novel portrays Francisco Franco during the Civil War between historical rigor and fable, and describes daily life in the Francoist zone and the contradiction of the intellectuals who tried to moderate the regime. The adventures of a young typographer act as a counterpoint to that collective tragicomedy.
It was awarded the Premio de la Crítica de Narrativa Castellana. First published in 1991.
For readers of contemporary Spanish fiction and those interested in the Civil War and the figure of Franco.
Francisco Alejandro Pérez Martínez, better known as Francisco Umbral, was a Spanish journalist, novelist, biographer and essayist.
