«Lies» is the contemporary novel by Enrique de Heriz, published by Phoenix in paperback (496 pages, in English).
Isobel, an anthropologist, is declared dead after a boat accident in Guatemala, but survives in hiding without deciding whether to reveal she is still alive. Isobel's daughter, Serena, tries to reconstruct the family history before her father's Alzheimer's erases the memories, and the novel interweaves memory, identity, truth and lies.
The novel was originally published in Spanish as «Mentira» (2004), winner of the Premi Llibreter for narrative; the English translation was a finalist for the Valle-Inclán Prize in 2007.
For readers of contemporary fiction seeking family stories with mystery, memory and identity.
