«L'Insoutenable Légèreté de l'être» is the novel by Milan Kundera, published by Gallimard in the Folio collection in paperback (476 pages, in French).
Tomás and Tereza live a relationship marked by jealousy and his infidelities; Sabina, one of his lovers, and Franz seek their own path to freedom. The narrative contrasts the lightness and weight of existence, and reflects on love, eroticism, kitsch and European memory in a story that blends dream and meditation.
Translation from the Czech by François Kérel, revised by the author, and afterword by François Ricard. The work was originally published in Czech as «Nesnesitelná lehkost bytí».
Recommended for readers of literary fiction and contemporary narrative seeking novels with philosophical reflection and European history.
