«Los árboles mueren de pie» is a play by Alejandro Casona, published by Edaf Antillas in paperback (112 pages, in Spanish).
The play contrasts the world of desires with that of reality: a married couple maintains a fantasy to hide from the wife the truth about her grandson, and strangers are hired to sustain that fiction. Casona uses theatre within the theatre and argues that accepting reality, even when it hurts, is the most dignified way to live.
Play originally published in 1949, included in the Biblioteca Edaf collection, with a prologue by Mauro Armiño.
For students and readers of classic Spanish theatre seeking a reflection on illusion and reality.

Alejandro Rodríguez Álvarez, known as Alejandro Casona was a Spanish poet and playwright born in Besullo, Spain, a member of the Generation of '27. Casona received his bachelor's degree in Gijon and later studied at the University of Murcia. After Franco's rise in 1936, he was forced, like many Spanish intellectuals, to leave Spain. He lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina until April 1962, when he definitively returned to Spain.
