«Los asquerosos» is the novel by Santiago Lorenzo, published by Blackie Books in hardcover (224 pages, in Spanish).
Manuel stabs a riot police officer who wanted to hit him and flees to an abandoned village. There he survives on books, vegetables and the help of his uncle, until he discovers that the less he has, the less he needs. A story that rewrites the myth of Robinson Crusoe in empty Spain and asks whether the only sane people are those who recognize that society is sick, with humor and social criticism.
Contemporary fiction novel and thriller with political charge. Originally published in 2018, it won the Premio Cálamo Book of the Year.
For readers of current Spanish narrative seeking a social fable with a comic and reflective tone.
