«Los días modernos» is the coming-of-age novel by Cristina López Schlichting, published by Plaza & Janés in hardcover in 2017 (320 pages, in Spanish).
Amelia, about to turn thirteen, lives in a Madrid of the 1970s that is beginning to change. Her everyday world, between the nuns' school, her family and the vacant lot where she watches the older boys, is altered when she decides to get money to buy the Nancy doll from her friend Maru. The plan leads her to new friendships and dangers, and to discover love, injustice and solidarity in a society in transformation.
The work belongs to the Éxitos collection. It is the author's first novel; she is a Spanish journalist, and it is set in late Francoist Spain and the Transition.
Aimed at readers who enjoy coming-of-age novels and nostalgia for 1970s Spain, with a close, fast-paced style.
