«Los girasoles ciegos» is the novel by Alberto Méndez, published by RBA Coleccionables in hardcover (155 pages, in Spanish).
Set in postwar Spain, the work brings together four subtly connected stories in which defeat and fear mark the lives of a captain who renounces victory, a boy poet who flees with a pregnant companion, a prisoner in Porlier prison, and a deacon who hides his lust behind fascism. Each tale uses its own narrator and style, and together they paint a fresco of the so-called years of silence.
Winner of the Premio de la Crítica de Narrativa Castellana, the Premio Nacional de Narrativa, and the Premio Setenil. It is part of the Biblioteca Anagrama collection, number 3.
