«Los libros repentinos» is the novel by Pablo Gutiérrez, published by Seix Barral in paperback (272 pages, in Spanish).
When she is widowed, Reme mistakenly receives a box of books and immerses herself in them. Reading isolates her: she devours novels about survival, desire and frustrations. When she emerges, she sees her neighborhood and her life with new eyes, and that gaze pushes her toward rebellion. A story about the transformative and unsettling power of literature, with quixotic echoes and social critique.
It belongs to the Biblioteca Breve collection from Seix Barral, originally published in 2015 in Spain.
For readers of contemporary Spanish fiction interested in the power of literature and stories of personal transformation with a social backdrop.
Pablo Gutiérrez is a Spanish writer. He studied journalism in Seville but now works as a school teacher in Cádiz.
