«Lost for Words» is John Humphrys's essay on linguistic criticism, published by Hodder & Stoughton Ltd in hardcover (352 pages, in English).
John Humphrys denounces the decline of English and the manipulative use made of it by politicians, bosses and public discourse. The author reviews empty clichés, business jargon and grammatical lapses such as dangling participles or verbless sentences to show how language loses precision and ends up confusing rather than communicating.
The full subtitle is «The Mangling and Manipulating of the English Language» and the work was first published in 2004.
For readers interested in English, grammar and communication, and for those who want to see how language is manipulated in public life.
